When choosing a home, you have a lot of important decisions to make. One of your biggest decisions to make from the beginning is what sort of house that you would like. There are two typical types of homes that are bought: tract homes and custom homes.
Tract Homes
Tract homes are cookie-cutter houses which have a similar style and floor plan to all the other houses in the development. The lots are usually very small and referred to as a “postage stamp” size.
Pros: The lower price is often the biggest selling point for tract homes. Additionally, these homes are built quickly and easily since they are following a clear model.
Cons: You don’t get to change many specifications if any at all for these homes. Plus, the quality of these homes is often compromised for mass production and a lower price.
Custom Homes
Custom homes are for those with distinguished tastes. They are built specifically for an individual. You will choose many specifications, including the floor plan, lot choice, colors, fixtures, and more.
Pros: A more beautiful, higher quality home is of course one of the main pros. You can also have full control over the specifications to make them fit your unique lifestyle and needs.
Cons: Probably the hardest part about building a custom home is finding the right builder. With the wrong builder, the entire process can be incredibly stressful and time consuming. The higher cost can also be a factor.
